History

In 1985, Fr. Virgilio Bartolome, SVD and Bro. Mario Vierneza along with Bay Area youth and other adults prayed for spiritual revival among teenagers of San Francisco. Their previous experience with a teen cursillo in Vallejo helped them to prepare for God’s blessings. In January 1986, the first J.A.C. renewal weekend occurred. In 2020, J.A.C. will celebrate their 35th anniversary. The youth movement has touched the lives of numerous youth, their parents, and their communities through the weekly meetings, renewal weekends, conferences, conventions and special events. Over the past 35 years, many Bay Area Catholic Churches, such as St. Paul of the Shipwreck, St. Patrick, St. Veronica, St. Elizabeth, and Holy Angels have encouraged this youth movement to seek spiritual, emotional, intellectual, and social growth. It is the hope of the youth to discover and develop their God-given talents and gifts to bring out their full potential so that they gain self-worth and the undying love to serve Jesus Christ.
